The author started a project to replace the laminate flooring underneath the damaged mat with hexagon tiles since they were fed up with their cat Lucky damaging entry carpets. The cat managed to soil the mat, which raised questions about the subfloor even though it was springy and patterned.

To build a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing entry, we chose to use hexagon tiles, which are similar to their kitchen flooring. We prepared the area for the new tiles by cutting out the old flooring along the traced line while keeping the idea in mind.

We used Schluter Kerdi membrane and AquaDefense liquid membrane for waterproofing in order to solve any possible moisture problems. Rapid-setting thin-set mortar was then used to lay the tiles, and once it had set, the author grouted. We demonstrated how to mix and apply grout, stressing the importance of patience.

In order to provide flexibility with any flooring movement, the outer spaces between the tiles and other floors were designed for caulking. Grouting is an important phase in the process, despite the fact that it might be dirty. Using baby wipes to remove the grout coating from the tiles is beneficial.

Caulking the edges was the last step, which gave the project a final touch. The caulk created a smooth appearance and helped conceal any uneven cuts. The finished floor not only solved the cat-related issues but also turned into a useful and attractive entrance that could withstand muddy and damp shoes.

Despite being a necessity, the renovation turned a previously damaged floor into a useful and beautiful area.
