A Woman Who Became A “Vampire” By Covering Entire Body In Tattoos Issues Warning
Maria José Cristerna, the woman who holds the Guinness World Record for the most bodily alterations, has issued a strong warning to those considering imitating her. Known as the “real-life vampire” due to her striking appearance, Cristerna has dedicated much of her life to her extensive tattoo collection, starting with her first tattoo at the age of 14.
With a total of 50 physical modifications, the Mexican woman secured her place in the Guinness World Records in 2022 as the most altered woman. Her alterations include implants in her arms and forehead, multiple piercings, a split tongue, and tattoos that cover nearly her entire body, including her eyeballs.
In an interview with Guinness World Records, Cristerna shared that her father initially disagreed with her decision to get tattoos, but later supported her, even taking her to the tattoo studio for her first one. She expressed a deep connection to art, saying, “Art runs through my veins. Since I was a little kid, I loved art, and now I can express it through my body.”
Her physical changes symbolize her escape from a painful and abusive ten-year marriage. Cristerna advocates for other women who have experienced similar abuse, stating, “The only way to escape from violence and abuse is by loving yourself. We came to this world to be happy.”
While each of her alterations holds personal significance, Cristerna has noted that the implants in her arms and the pigmentation of her eyeballs were the most painful. Despite the pain, she remains committed to her journey of self-expression. “You always can reach your goals. There are no limits. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it,” she said.
Cristerna aims to cover 100 percent of her body with tattoos, stating confidently, “I don’t care what people think about me. I put myself in first place. I know who I am, and that is what is important.”
However, she also issued a cautionary message to young people considering extreme alterations, urging them to think carefully before making irreversible decisions. “You have to think about it a lot, as it is irreversible,” she advised. “It’s become fashionable to get tattoos and piercings, but what if we reach a point where we don’t like them anymore? You have to love it and be able to defend it your whole life.”
Despite her warning, the “Vampire Woman” continues to get tattoos, recently sharing an image of her latest tattoo session on Instagram with the caption, “One more stripe for my brother’s tiger Rene Camarena Laus Satanus.”
